What are NTC thermistors?
NTC thermistor definition?
A NTC thermistor ia a thermally sensitive resistor whose resistance exhibits a large and precise and predictable decrease as the core temperature of the resistance increases over the operating temperature range.
NTC stands for “Negative Temperature Coefficient” NTC thermistors are resistors with a negative temperature coefficient, this means that the resistance Decreases with the Increasing temperature. They are primarily used as resistive temperature sensors and current limiting devices.
The temperature sensitivity coefficient is about five times greater that that of silicon type sensors (silistors) and about 10 times greater than those of resistance detectors (RTDs)
NTC ranges are general from -55degc >200degc.
The NON-linearity of the relationship between resistance & temperature which is demonstrated by NTC resistors posed a great challenge, when using Analog CCTs to accurately measure temperature, but the development of Digital CCTs has solved the problem allowing computation of precise values by interpolating “look up” tables or by solving equations which which will give an approximate NTC curve.
